Today I want to show you this amazing deal with MailPoet on Appsumo and a little bit of information about both and how it can help grow your business.
As you grow and develop your website design business you will run across clients who need more than a basic site. They may want you to handle marketing or specifically email marketing. Maybe they want you to recommend a mailing list service with a great reputation. This allows you to offer another service alongside your web design which would increase the performance of your website and increase your value to your client while helping them out.
AppSumo, the people behind many crazy great deals for web designers and entrepreneurs have teamed up with MailPoet and worked out a custom plan for people who use AppSumo.
What is the MailPoet Deal on AppSumo?
AppSumo works on codes, these codes can be bought at a heavily discounted rate for a limited time with permission from the developer or company. You can buy a CODE from AppSumo which entitles you to some perks which differ per product.
With the MailPoet on AppSumo deal, you can buy a code and it will allow you to install MailPoet on an unlimited amount of websites. What’s more, each of these websites can have a unique mailing list subscriber count of 5000 subscribers. To clarify that’s a cap of 5000 subscribers per website! Not only that, but they also allow you unlimited email sends per month! So you can send out unlimited emails to your list of 5000 subscribers at no additional cost or restrictions.
Wait there is more
With AppSumo you can often stack codes, meaning for another $49 you can add another code to the existing code and you now have a limit of 10,000 subscribers per list. With this deal, you can actually stack 10 codes so you can have access to a mailing list of 50,000 subscribers for a one-time lifetime access fee of $490.00 which is a crazy good deal. To put this in comparison, to get that level of mailing list subscribers with MailChimp you would be paying in the region of $299.00 PER MONTH.
What’s the catch?
There is always something to be wary of and it has been brought up on AppSumo’s forums and many Facebook groups and that is the spam and permanent ban policy they have. While not unusual, it is strict.
If you get 5% of your emails getting reported as spam you will get a warning. 10% you will get your account permabanned and lose all sending privileges. You would still have your list of 5-50k subscribers and still be able to use the email tools and templates but you wouldn’t be able to send to your list on any of your clients. without adding a second mail sending platform such as SendGrid.
A Solution to the MailPoet ban policy.
I mentioned on the AppSumo forums what I propose here and a response from the creators was that is was a creative and clever workaround to the situation but didn’t directly say if it was allowed or not.
You could offer mailing list management and marketing email service as part of your business model.
- Get as many codes as you can comfortably afford onto your own mailing list subscription. Stack them
- Add clients who are wanting you to manage their marketing and email list to your large plan.
Offer your clients, a way to mail their own lists at a reasonable price with MailPoet On AppSumo
- Buy Additional codes and don’t stack them, each code will add a subscription plan to your MailPoet account.
- If your client wants to manage their own list and send their own emails which may be spammy add them to this list.
- Charge them a fee to cover the use which is fair and reasonable for what they are getting and police it as best you can.
- If you get a ban for spam, isolate the offending client, then move your remaining clients to a spare subscription code you have already activated. (If you have 50 clients on that plan and one bad actor sends spam that full account will be punished hence the failsafe accounts)
- Add a second or third failsafe plan with 5k subscribers where if you lose sending privileges to the one you can migrate your good clients to the second and third failsafe. While this would no doubt be a pain in the ass, the savings you would be making to your clients and the potential to capitalize on another revenue stream would be massive if you can implement this successfully.
While not an ideal situation, it would allow you to jump on this great deal while it’s available until something can be added by MailPoet to allow agency owners to ban specific websites on a plan rather than the entire plan.
